Ingredients

Steps

  1. Prepare a pot and add 125 gr of granulated sugar.
  2. Turn on medium-low heat and cook until all the sugar melts into caramel.
  3. Do not stir it so the sugar does not clump together; just shake and swirl the pot.
  4. Lower the heat so the caramel does not burn and turn bitter.
  5. Once all the sugar has melted into caramel, add 250 ml of hot water gradually, a little at a time.
  6. Keep cooking until it boils and all the sugar has dissolved.
  7. Turn off the heat, then let the caramel syrup cool.
  8. Combine the dry ingredients: 225 gr of wheat flour, 1/2 tsp of baking soda, 1/2 tsp of baking powder, and 1/4 tsp of vanilla powder.
  9. Sift the dry ingredients to make sure there are no lumps, then set aside.
  10. Prepare a bowl and add 125 gr of granulated sugar and 2 eggs.
  11. Beat for about 7 minutes at maximum speed until the batter is pale and risen.
  12. Add the cooled caramel syrup gradually, a little at a time, while mixing on low speed until evenly combined.
  13. Add the sifted dry ingredients gradually, a little at a time, while mixing on low speed until evenly combined.
  14. Continue folding the batter with a spatula to make sure it is evenly mixed.
  15. Add 75 gr of melted margarine.
  16. Fold again until the margarine is fully incorporated, because leftover margarine at the bottom will make the cake dense.
  17. Brush the moulds thinly with cooking oil, then fill them only three quarters full since the cakes will rise.
  18. Heat the steamer until the water boils, then put in the moulds filled with batter.
  19. Steam over medium heat for about 15 minutes, lining the steamer lid with a clean cloth so condensation does not drip onto the batter.
  20. After 15 minutes do a skewer test; if no batter sticks to it, the cakes are done.
  21. Lift the cakes out of the steamer.
  22. While still hot, turn the cakes out of the moulds and serve.
