Ingredients

Custard:

Steps

  1. Measure out 40 gr cornstarch, add 4 egg yolks and 2 whole eggs, then stir until evenly combined and set it aside.
  2. Set out a pot, add 150 gr granulated sugar, 500 ml liquid milk, and 1 tsp vanilla, then stir until evenly combined.
  3. Cook over medium heat until it boils, stirring occasionally so the bottom does not scorch.
  4. Once it boils, lower the heat.
  5. Take a little of the hot milk mixture, add it to the egg mixture, then stir until evenly combined.
  6. Pour the egg mixture back into the pot while stirring constantly so it does not turn lumpy.
  7. Turn the heat back on to medium, then cook until it boils and thickens, stirring constantly so the bottom does not scorch or turn lumpy.
  8. Once it has thickened, boiled, and started bubbling up, the custard is done. Turn off the heat.
  9. Add 2 tbsp margarine, then stir until the margarine melts and is evenly combined.
  10. Prepare 12 slices of crustless white bread, then roll the bread out thin.
  11. Cut slits into the bread but do not cut all the way through.
  12. Once the custard is cool, transfer it into a piping bag.
  13. Line muffin moulds with paper cups, then lay the cut bread on top. Steamed-cupcake moulds or pie tins work too.
  14. Pipe custard into each bread case to taste.
  15. Preheat the oven for about 10 minutes.
  16. Bake at 150 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat for about 25 minutes or until the surface of the bread is browned.
  17. After about 25 minutes of baking, the surface is golden brown, which means it is done. Take the tray out of the oven and serve.
