Ingredients

Steps

  1. Grease a 30 by 10 cm tin, 6 cm deep, thinly with margarine, line it with baking paper, then grease the base again thinly with margarine.
  2. Put 150 g dark cooking chocolate, 50 g margarine and 40 ml cooking oil into a heatproof bowl.
  3. Bring water to a boil in a pan over medium heat, set the bowl of chocolate over it, and melt until the chocolate is melted and evenly combined.
  4. Lift the bowl off the pan and let the chocolate mixture cool.
  5. Blend 150 g granulated sugar so it dissolves faster, then tip it into a bowl.
  6. Add 2 eggs, then stir until evenly combined and the sugar has dissolved.
  7. Sift 100 g all-purpose flour and 35 g cocoa powder into the mixture, then stir until evenly combined.
  8. Add the melted chocolate you set aside, then stir again until evenly combined and the batter feels heavy and thick.
  9. Pour the batter into the tin, level it with a spatula or spoon, then tap the tin a few times so the batter settles evenly.
  10. Scatter toppings to taste such as sliced almonds, Silverqueen chocolate or chocolate chips.
  11. Bake on the upper rack of a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for about 15 minutes.
  12. Lower the temperature to 170 degrees Celsius and continue baking for about 20 minutes, making about 35 minutes of baking in total.
  13. Take the tin out of the oven without a skewer test since the texture is meant to be moist, then let the brownie cool.
  14. Turn the brownie out of the tin, peel off the baking paper, then cut it as you like.
